A universal experience with a better appreciation of being a Jesuit

The first-year Hekima College Scholastics visited Africama House on Monday, 24 July, 2017. They were accorded a hearty welcome by the JESAM President Fr. Agbonkhianmeghe E. Orobator SJ, and the JESAM secretariat staff. Among this year's scholastics, two are from Sri Lanka, in the Conference of South Asia.

The President gave an introductory presentation on the organizational structure of JESAM and the history of the Conference to date.

He also challenged them as they begin their formation journey to heed Father General Arturo Sosa's message that all Jesuits form one common apostolic body despite the differences in nationality, race, age, or even the province or region from which one comes from. He said: "If you are Jesuits, that difference is not a gap, but simply a bridge to universality".

The President asked the exuberant scholastics to keep in mind that "there's such a thing as universal vision of the Jesuit mission". Especially now that they are in Hekima College, this is probably the most universal experience they may ever have as Jesuits, a place where they will encounter Jesuits from a variety and diversity of background in age, experience, outlook, disposition, ethnicity or even in colour and race.

"This is one experience you may never repeat again as a Jesuit...make the most of it, so that it may count in years to come", he advised.

The scholastics were invited to a Q & A session, an opportunity to give feedback on the presentation, and to share their thoughts and expectations.

The visit concluded with a social interaction session accompanied by refreshments.
