On the 20th of July, 2017, Jesuits, family members, other religious and well-wishers from all over came to witness celebrate and witness the profession of first vows of four second year novices at the Jesuit Novitiate in Benin City.

The men, Christian Ekesiobi, Vitalis Mberu, Tobechukwu Edeh and Anthony Kalu, came to the ceremony all decked in their well ironed and neatly tailored suits and clerical shirts.

The Vow Mass was celebrated by Fr. Chuks Afiawari, SJ, Provincial of the ANW Province with Fr. Thomas Oguagua, SJ, the Novice Master as the main concelebrant supported by a host of Jesuit and priests from other congregations and dioceses. The deacon of the day was Rev. John Okebaram, SJ.

It was a lively Mass with a lot of music and dance with the highpoint of the Mass being the period of profession and signing of the vow formula. In as much as there was a lot of singing and some dancing, the ceremony had a solemn feel to it to carry the import of the occasion of the occasion.

The homilist, Fr. Reginald Tiesaah, SJ, entreated the vow men to emulate Christ in the way they lived their lives and to become "Christs" to those they will have the opportunity to encounter along the way.

The men were all missioned to Arrupe College in Harare, Zimbabwe for their first studies and left the novitiate the day just after the vows.

The ordinations for four of our brothers was held on the 22nd of July followed by their Mass of Thanksgiving on 23rd July at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Benin City.

The men ordained were Frs. John Okebaram, Michael Edomobi, Maximus Ibeneto and Francis Onukwuli. They were ordained by Bishop Donatus Ogun of the Uromi Diocese in Nigeria.

The ordination Mass, which had about 40 or more priests in attendance, was a beautiful celebration which showcased the culture and hospitality of the people of the ancient Benin Empire. Lots of cultural attires and dances were on display for all to see.

The Bishop in his homily urged the newly ordained to be priests after God's own heart and know that they are being ordained to be with the people and to work with and for them.
