Fr. General meets Jesuit Hakimani Centre Staff and CLC Kenya Leaders

edFather General concluded his visit to the Eastern Africa Province by concelebrating at the Loyola House Community Mass with Fr. Fratern Masawe, SJ as the main celebrant. After Mass he joined the community for breakfast together with the leaders of the Christian Life Community (CLC) Kenya who had been invited for Mass.

After breakfast, he met staff of Jesuit Hakimani Centre (JHC) who took him through the programs at the centre for Centre for Social Concern in Eastern Africa. JHC's Strategic Plan 2016-2020 which focuses on Social and Economic Justice for Young People, Policy and Governance Environment in support of livelihoods for Smallhold farmers as well as Civic Engagement for the promotion of Good Governance systems and processes. After the presentation, Father General inquired what the centre was doing toward a peaceful 2017 election in Kenya. Brs. Elias Mokua, SJ and James Kanali, SJ indicated that the JHC had done research that indicated that the elections should be issue based and not tribal.hakimani2

This research had been shared with the Church and political leaders and hopefully the results of the research will be taken into consideration during the campaign period and eventual elections. Father General then encouraged JHC to network with other social centres of the Society of Jesus to continue this crucial mission of the peace and reconciliation.

After the meeting with Jesuit Hakimani Staff, Father General met the leaders of the CLC in Kenya who took him through a brief history and activities of the organization. He encouraged and thanked the CLC leadership and members for allowing Jesuits to collaborate with them. He asked members of the CLC to live their vocation as lay people deeply and assured them of the continued collaboration with the Jesuits. The CLC leaders then presented Fr. General with a gift from all members of the CLC. Immediately after taking a group photo with CLC members Father General and Fr. Masawe left for the airport.
